Medieval townhalls were central gathering places in towns and
villages during the Middle Ages. These buildings served as
administrative hubs where local leaders, such as mayors or town
councils, held meetings and made decisions for the community.
Townhalls often housed important functions, including the treasury, a
small court, and spaces for public announcements or events.
Architecturally, they were typically designed in a sturdy and
functional style, often featuring large windows, wooden beams, and
towers. They also served as important symbols of civic pride and
governance. In medieval Europe, townhalls began to appear in cities
and towns as centers of municipal authority, with their construction
becoming more widespread during the 13th and 14th centuries.
