The Art Factory
Welcome to The Art Factory, a unique space for arts, music, dance and also a celebration of creativity.
This renovated industrial-style building has an exhibition hall space on the ground floor where an intensive year-round program of exhibitions take place.
The music academy shares with the ballet classroom the first floor. On the second floor there is a painting academy and a photographic studio.
The building’s rooftop holds glamorous opening events in which visitors can enjoy great views of the city. The working glass elevator allows people to reach every room of this building.
The Art Factory is not a reference to any specific building, but rather includes details and references from many industrial lofts common in New York and many American cities.
Main Features
- Folding Building Design: The building can be displayed opened or closed. In both cases, the exterior looks complete and detailed as if it had been conceived without this double function.
- Working Elevator: The elevator works with a mechanism that allows you to bring it up, down or stop it at any level.
- Industrial Style Windows: I’ve used an industrial window technique using garage roller doors sections.
- Modular building compatible: When the building is closed it’s modular compatible and it adds interesting alleys on both sides.
About The Project
As a son of an important visual artist, I grew up attending to art galleries, museums, and art opening receptions. So, developing a design in which art is involved seems to me so natural and I feel like I’m talking about my everyday life.
The idea of a repurposed building has always seduced to me as a Lego fan designer. In this case, an old factory-style building has been converted to an art centre in which takes place many different art activities on its different levels.
Three years ago, I’ve submitted to Lego Ideas the first version of this design which I called ‘The Art Centre’, it successfully achieved 10,000 supports but it doesn’t go through the review phase. Now, I’ve rebuilt it from scratch, introducing many improvements both in aesthetics and functionalities.

This build is fantastic and would make a great addition in my city display. I'd even try and motorise the elevator. Have you considered selling the instructions on the Rebrickable site? That way myself and many others could purchase the instructions, hunt down the pieces and build this awesome Lego set.

This is by far your best design and the best design on Bricklink, period. I'm baffled as to why it wasn't chosen, and wonder how I'm ever going to be able to make this building myself.
I'm not sure if TLG and Bricklink have a clue about their customer base, and what consumers actually want. Like I say, an absolutely perverse choice not to pick this.

I don't know whether it counts as a 'modular', but I know Bricklink have stated that no modulars will be allowed for Round 6. Still, I hope it won't affect them choosing this for Round 5. I don't see why it would, but this is such an incredible set (which would no doubt sellout in a few hours) that I'm nervous it doesn't get chosen.

I think the top of the elevator could be covered with short pins and long tiles in order to present some adverts or information about the current / upcoming exhibitions (maybe even a guy, struggling to attach those adds :D... ). I however feel that we already have these spaces in official Lego sets and it would be even more attractive if the building hosted spaces for new stories rather than repeating existing ones.
