1) Design Inspiration
I was eager to design a model that combined my passion for nature, the outdoors and architecture for BDP Series 4. This quickly led to the idea of a log home based in an alpine setting. Initially, I looked at several examples of log homes to establish some of their key features. These included a deck, a large vaulted living room and an upper mezzanine floor.
The model evolved a lot during the design process. It started out as a fully enclosed house, but that required making many compromises to the model's appearance to stay within a reasonable part count. Therefore, I opted for an open back design, which allowed me to include more landscaping, interesting architectural features and a higher density of detail overall.
The main design challenge related to the complex roof structure of the house, so I spent a lot of time getting the geometry right at the very beginning of the design process. It also took a while to settle on the colour palette and the composition of the final model.
I hope you enjoy the Highland Holiday Home as much as I enjoyed designing it.
