The Sub Sandwich Shop Food Truck

Several years ago I was inspired to create a visual pun of a sandwich submarine. Years later while looking for inspiration for a set I could design for Bricklink I had the idea to reimagine the Submarine Sandwich as a food truck! I soon realized how cool it would be to mix 1/3 Submarine, 1/3 Sandwich, and 1/3 Food Truck into a set! I set about to create it with play features and plenty of details and display qualities. I spent a significant amount of time on a system of gears to operate a spinning propeller and a bobbing periscope. This turned out to be fairly difficult as the top bun had to be removeable but also sturdy enough to house the mechanism for the periscope with gears that would seat over a gear in the submarine body. A two-tone Yellow and Bright Light Orange color scheme was chosen to utilize the most interesting parts of both colors creating a fun cartoonish, paneled submarine. I opted for a three-tone interior using Blue, Dark Azure, and white to contrast against both the Yellow/Orange of the submarine exterior and the more appetizing greens, pinks, and reds of the Sandwich portion. This set includes 3 minifigures; A Sub Captain and a couple on a date with their German Shepard . Also included are a squirrel and a seagull to reflect the coastal park atmosphere.
