Presenting: The Railyard Warrior

This diesel train is known as a "road switcher" and is commonly found in railyards maneuvering wagons from one track to another, preparing them for the main line. I was inspired to build one when I saw an old road switcher near the Port of Montreal. Creaky and rusty, the train was still hauling a bunch of wagons along the tracks without missing a beat.

The design is based on a late 1950s road switcher and is 1:48 scale, or 8 LEGO studs wide, featuring black, orange, and yellow bricks. I would say the most challenging part of the design was trying to capture the distinct look of the back cab.

This build is also compatible with the Powered Up system and can be easily motorized. The front and back lights are also designed to be illuminated with a LEGO lighting kit. It was important for me to make a train that would look great on display but could also run smoothly on tracks. I hope you enjoy the design!

Specifications: 38 studs long (locomotive), 804 pieces, 6 stickers, a display stand, and 1 mini-figure ("Old Man Harry").
