The Vaporetto is probably my lifetime work. Being half Venetian in the blood, replicating this iconic boat has been an honour for me as well as a real challenge. For this model I put on the table all I have learnt from hours and hours of Lego construction. Moreover, I made a lot of research on books and "on field" of course. Once I had all info I needed, I tried to do my best to scale the main dimensions to minifigure size and this wasn't easy since Lego has not half measures. After this important step, I moved to Studio and let the flow go, as it always happens to me. It's been very hard to replicate the bow but also to find the right proportions among all the sections of the boat. This ultimate design is the result of many attempts, verifications, optimizations. In the process I also built the model for real and this helped me a lot to understand what was working good and what was not. Finally, the creation of the instructions has been very challenging.
Now, let's get practical, the model replicates a Vaporetto series 80, the most used and recognisable Venice waterbus.
I used 1034 pieces and the dimensions are the following:
Length: 58.4 cm
Width: 12.2 cm
Heigth: 8.6 cm
The model is fully playable, the roof can be detached and the doors, as well as the gates, can be arranged to better represent their usage.
I also added two minifigures representing the Vaporetto crew.
In the end I can only say that, if you are a Venice lover or simply if you like boats, this Vaporetto is right for you!
