Deep in the Central American jungle sits a forgotten temple with hidden gold in the corridors, guarded by poisonous frogs and spiders. The overgrown trees and vines slowly reclaim the pyramid as it once was the center of early civilization. At the base, serpent heads scare away unwanted enemies and spirits.
This is the Chicken Itza temple I built originally as a custom lego model for my fiver service. I decided to turn it into the model I use for this submission as I believe it has great potential as it represents a part of the history of a time long ago. The Mayans used interlocking building techniques that give the pyramid its strength which I tried to incorporate using patterns of 1x1 and 1x2 lego bricks. I really enjoyed making the brick orientation as it adds detail/character, the symmetrical aspects of the building, and of course the frogs.
My favorite part is the spider web on the inside which can be seen by lifting up any of the 4 staircases to reveal the long-lost interior of the temple! Don't get too close to the gold though,,,
