The “rotor” is a fairground attraction originally patented by Ernst Hoffmeister in 1949. In this amusement ride, passengers are standing inside a rotating cylinder. The centrifugal effect glues them to the wall and this is made highly visible by lowering the cylinder floor. The attraction presented here is themed along a “classic space” design – the operators are wearing astronaut costumes. While it is of course possible for tentative “astronauts” to ride into the rotor itself, an observation platform allows “visitors” to observe the centrifugal effect from above the rotor and witness the "astronauts" visibly stuck to the wall and not falling when the floor is removed. The platform also offers a nice point of view on the rest of the fairground.

The model features a control tower from where the rotor is operated. The rotor is able to rotate as in reality through a first cranking mechanism operated from the back. Note that, due to the smaller scale, it is physically impossible to have minifigures stuck to the wall due to rotation. The effect of the centrifugal force is mimicked by sticking the minifigures to the wall using brackets of the same color as the legs. A second crank on the side allows the rotor floor to move up and down.
