Welcome to New York! This 3646 piece LEGO model was inspired by New York City apartment buildings and the LEGO modular buildings line. This set includes two shops: a comic store and a convenience store. It has three different apartments, a family one, one for an older couple, and one for a university student. All four separate interiors are jam-packed with fun details. The roof features a rooftop garden and a billboard, which adds to the urban nature of the set. This building has a full fire escape along the back and dumpsters that add realism.
Throughout the design process, it was essential and care planned out that there was full accessibility for minifigures, whether that be the residents or shop owners. The architecture is very much angular and straight, which relates to the inspiration of this model: New York. To achieve this atheistic, SNOT (Studs Not On Top) building was paramount to getting the brick textures without the use of decorations. After the construction was completed, I realised that it needed some contrast, therefore I added greenery in form of a beutiful looking tree. This tree was by far the most time-consuming part of designing the model, and relies on technic connectors mainly for the shape.
This model is massive, coming in at 10 inches wide (25cm), 10 inches deep (25cm) and 19.5 inches tall (49.5cm).
