The notorious outlaw Billy the Brick has robbed Stud City and gotten away with sheriff Wild Brick Hiccup's safe. Now, he might be the fastest gunslinger in the West, but not the brightest brick. Will he be able to crack the combination lock and get the gold nugget? Will you?

Working Lock Mechanism

Already as a young gun, I was buildin' mechanical contraptions with LEGO bricks. Now, as an ol' cowboy, that hasn't changed. And what's more essential in the Wild West than a safe? Now, after endless hours of buildin', rebuildin' and refinin', I'm confident the result will make any aspiring brick robber reconsider their career path.

The combination lock works just like a real safe. And because it LEGO, you can chose and build your own secret code. And if your code is compromised you can quickly rebuild the code. Just don't forget to write ...ehh I mean build... your code into the book so you won't forget it.

The safe has 24 possible combinations, and it comes with 12 code bricks that can be combined to always keep your secret code in the book.

The Small Print

The safe comes pre-stocked with everything a Wild West gunslinger needs, including a gold nugget, dynamite, an old cheese, and half a sausage. These general goods are fixed on studs so they don't fall off when handling (or robbing) the safe. However, they can easily be removed in case you need room for your own valuables.

Cowboy FAQ

Q: What if I forget my secret code?

A: Don't worry. You've got dynamite!

Q: But the dynamite is inside the safe!

A: Right... but don't worry. The safe is made of LEGO after all, so it won't stop an ol' gunslinger with a brick-separator like yourself.

Hope you enjoy. Thanks for your support.

Il_Buono, thank you for an outstanding model! It was a joy to build and operate. Piggybacking on your comments - I tried replacing only the 2 pins for the longer red cylinders with the correct 1/2 pins, and found that was sufficient to restore the lock mechanism to smooth operation. My set even had 2 spare 1/2 pins in LBG so I was able to implement this fix with no additional parts.

⚠️ IMPORTANT - LOCK MECHANISM PIN PROBLEM FOLLOW-UP There's a small but fatal mistake in the building instructions. 10x Technic 1/2 pins (4274) in the the lock mechanism in original design, have been replaced with Technic 3/4 pins (32002) by Bricklink without my knowledge. This makes the lock not work, or very poorly at best. I have addressed Bricklink and urged them to fix the problem - to revise the official building instructions and perhaps even send replacements parts - but Bricklink don’t see the problem as paramount as I do. So if you have problems with your lock mechanism, please see my posts below how to fix it. As the designer I am terribly sorry about the situation, but I am equally proud to have been chosen for the Bricklink Designer Program, and extremely honoured that YOU have supported my project. THANK YOU. Now this here cowboy will ride into the sunset 🤠

LOCK MECHANISM PIN PROBLEM - BRICKLINK’s SOLUTION Posted on 25 Dec. 2021 by Admin_Russell: “I have attached an image showing how to ease the mechanism to allow the combination cylinders to operate freely. Move the connectors slightly in the direction of the white arrows. This will enable your model to work without the need for replacement parts.” See attached image.

Just Received my Safe after a long delay supper excited but a little disappointed that when LEGO builds these designers sets they don't show a proper picture of any changes they made. I like the gold colors of the original and the dial style better. The glass bottle should have been trans-green but I understand if LEGO doesn't want to make parts in colors they don't need many of or have space for. I may or may not have purchased if LEGO showed changes made.

@steinman17 - The two extra red parts are for aligning the sticker on the dial (see attached photo). This is an option for those builders who want absolute precision. Please be careful you do not stretch the sticker during the application process as this may cause an alignment issue.

@steinman17, here is a comment made from @R0Sch on Dec 29, 2021, 6:54 AM EST: The mentioned 2 red pieces are most likely left-overs from the initial way the Designer intended to make sure the sticker is aligned properly on the wheel. Was probably another last minute change in the instruction after the bags were already packed.

I still haven't seen anyone answer where there are the two extra red pieces. It's quite perplexing. They are not your usual extra pieces.

Hey everyone, I finally built my copy of this yesterday and made a useful discovery about the combination lock (re: the wrong pins being used - see comments below by Il_Buono and Admin_Russell). My set included two spares of piece 4211483 (the Technic 1/2 pins in light bluish grey) and I discovered that just replacing the pins on the longer red pieces in the lock mechanism was enough to make it all turn smoothly. I didn't need to wiggle the mechanism loose or replace the other 8 pins and it works great, so I was able to restore the original functionality without needing any pieces beyond the two extras included in the box!

Received mine today. Unfortunately there was a 1x12 light grey brick missing so I have a gap in the back wall now, plugged the gap with 2 stacks of 3 1x1 plates just as a spacer so I could finish the rest of it. Even more unfortunate though is that this part is not in stock so I have no idea how long I need to wait for them to send a replacement. It's a shame about the wrong pins being included, you can make it work with the grey ones but you need to loosen up the assembly, it would be much easier and nicer if it worked when it was snug.

I've been really excited about this release, however, today Lego tried to charge the card I used when ordering but card was not valid anymore. Now they claim that I've lost my order and they cant make a new one for me :(

Thanks for the updates Il Buono and Admin Russell. I made the changes with the blue pins and it works well. The tan 3/4 pins left too much play it the mechanism. I also find that my 'default' code was 5 1 rather than 4 2. I guess that may be due to where I placed the number sticker on the dial. I only received the set in March but it's a great build. Lego Australia stuffed up though. I ordered two and they only sent one. I did get a credit, but would have preferred to get a set to archive..

I just got my safe and I love it! So fun to just play with the lock! Replacing the 3/4 pins with the 1/2 pins in the lock mechanism fixed all the minor issues I had. Thanks for tip, Il_Buono! Also, I figured that others may have some confusion about how to set a new combination from the pictures in the instructions so here's what I figured out: 1) The wheel on the left is the wheel closest to the inside of the door. Orientation on the axle matters here with the topmost wheel hole aligned with the "1" on the dial outside the door. Move the pins on the wheel to match this orientation. 2) The wheel on the right is the one farther from the door interior. The orientation doesn't matter here since it rotates on a pin, so just check the ordering of the pins and the gap.

I just got my tracking number! So glad this is finally out of shipping purgatory and on its way to me! Hoping I can get the lock to work smoothly with the set as delivered, otherwise I'll be contacting customer support about getting the parts required to build the lock the way Il_Buono designed it before Bricklink changed it. There have definitely been some issues on Bricklink's end with this program (and I really wish Bricklink / LEGO had communicated better around the North America + Australia shipping delays) but the sets themselves all look amazing and I'm so happy I finally get to build my first two sets and support the awesome AFOL designers!

@admin Russel, Sorry but that's not a fix for the set, to just wiggle it looser, it is what I figured out myself as well. But it's s janky solution. And doesn't really fit the Lego ethos does it?
