| I have been reading everything with a lot of interest today concerning the new
navigation bar. Overall, I like the simplified approach, but it definitely needs
some tweaks. I have listed a number of them in our admin forums, so I won't
go into the details on specific things here. Suffice it to say that many things
I had already listed are being brought up by others.
In general, this site is a different beast for everyone. Some are here to buy,
some to design, some to sell, and some to build the catalog. Unfortunately, the
new navigation bar is not set up to efficiently address the specific needs of
all of these user bases. It may be simpler for newer users or those who don't
have to do many things often, but it is not complex enough for those needing
to get work done.
People that use this site for catalog work or running a store are looking
for something more like what you would get in Excel or any other popular productivity
software. The top menu needs to be focused on getting crap done, not just residing
there to take up space. As is, the new navigation bar is like a bank website
- simple links to the main things, but nothing else.
I think that the BrickLink team needs to take a serious look into a customizable
navigation bar, because most power users will not find much useful about the
new bar. In fact, quite the opposite. There are more clicks needed than before
for many things and it takes up too much space for those needing to get work
done efficiently (don't get me started on it being sticky! ).
Someone in an earlier post I believe summed it up nicely. You can tell the new
navigation bar is designed by those who don't have to do a lot on the website
every day and look at the main BrickLink interface as a productivity platform.
I see a lot of potential going forward, but it starts with understanding the
needs of the different groups of users.
Cheers,
Randy

As I have thought this will end: Things take one click more. I don't mind,
it's simply seems the way everything has to be improved nowadays
Also - where is the link to access my own store? Or do I need a browser bookmark
now?

| well said overall.
the "extra click" issue can mostly be fixed just by making the "main"
menu items clickable like they were before. How come I cannot click on "community"
to automatically access the forums anymore?? why do I need to wait for a pull
down then move my cursor over to it and waste so much time? Also why doesn't
my "store icon" let me click it and actually show my orders as it did
before? these simple fixes will go a long way to make the nav bar usable again.

Yep. Like I said, there is a lot of potential here, but it needs some short-term
tweaks to make it more user-friendly for things that are accessed often by different
groups of people.

One other thing...
Take a good hard look at the header design of Brickset. It is damned near one
of the most beautiful and powerful page headers I have ever seen. BrickLink could
learn a thing or two (or more) from it.

Now look at the LEGO.com website. A beautiful white and yellow header with two
lines of content that scrolls away with the page as you scroll down (not sticky!),
and a beautiful dark blue-violet footer. Follow that up with lots of color in
the middle of the page and you have a nice-looking website.
But here we get black and white. Seriously? Like you said, we aren't Apple.

Me thinks now that for a calendar reason, as a company, they HAD to put this
next step online during 2024.
But they were delayed in August so, at the very last moment, 15 days before the
new year they're pushing the new version.
With errors, bad or obsolete links (did you click bottom "Help with Research"?)
and zero colors, with placeholders icons "IBAN" (mean nothing), American
Express - who pays directly with a Credit Card here - while forgetting Stripe,
then random sticky Numbers like "1113" here.
And zero absolutely zero color.
In short, it's just a prototype, a draft, a sketch.
Strange to put this online to the public, seriously.
There must be reasons I'm sure.

I've not read a better explanation, this has got to be the reason they did
it peak holiday season.

BTW, just looked what LEGO was like in 2005 almost when I registered to BrickLink.
Wasn't this classy, colorful, family friendly and muy sympatico?
Much work's to be done to arrive to this, but I'm sure it's just
a too quick timing and a poor draft for now and LEGO will change things. I hope

| AMEN. What an annoying waste of space. Far more clicks to get basic work done.
And the store links are off to the right, out of sight, instead of centred and
easy to access.
Absolutely ridiculous, clearly no sellers had input to these changes.

| | I have an example of a missing functionality:
How do I get to https://www.bricklink.com/myActivity.asp now? Except googling
for "bricklink my activity" and click on the first search result, like
I did to find it again?
Also - where is a link to open my own store?
|
For those who are interested: Answer to both is: Only in classic view (not of
the top bar, but of the "My BrickLink" site

| This recent change (with NO prior announcement that I saw), is a complete DOWNGRADE.
Whoever designed this clearly has NEVER been a seller on BrickLink. It's
complex enough (necessarily) to manage a store and process orders on what is
a great site, BUT I now have to spend at far too much time clicking and scrolling
to find functionality which was there within 2 clicks at most. PLEASE REVERT
BACK until you can design a flexible interface that addresses the needs of ALL
users of the site.

| When a admin says it’s bad, you know it’s bad
This will make my work so much harder, instead of just hovering over the desired
options and clicking exactly what I want, I now have to click through multiple
options just to get to a simple page that used to take one click!
The customizable header is a fantastic idea, could this be the default for new
users, and the old one for more experienced users?

Cheers,
Randy

+1
On a PC with a large enough browser window, it's somewhat usable. On a tablet...
just aweful.
To be honest we knew it wouldn't be the big hit, like almost every change
they made, hopefully they correct it so far, that it becomes usable again.
Thats not only BLs fault, Webpages nowadays are sadly more about optics than
usability.
We old farts will probably have to live with it, wide open spaces and such.
The next Gen might like it...
best regards
Old Man Werner

Randy, if you haven't done so already please bring this missing link:
https://www.bricklink.com/myActivity.asp
I can deal with the other changes but having a separate bookmark for this crucial
seller link is not good. Newer selllers won't even know it exists.
