Hello everyone,
An order was placed to me for the purchase of a new set from my store. But the
buyer has no reviews, he's account was created less than a week ago and he
didn't contact me before placing the order.
I am worried that the buyer will try to scam me, for example by saying that the
item is not good or something.

Do you think if I take a video of the packaging that will be enough to cover
me? How can I defend myself if this happens to me? and what are your recommendations?

Thanks in advance, Adrien.

dont be worried that is an extremely common thing. everyone starts with 0
feedback, many create an account and then soon after place an order and its a
very rare thing (at least for me) for a buyer to message before placing an order.
statistically speaking you are at a very low risk of problems

just make sure it has tracking and you take pictures of the exact condition you
sent it in. also if its over like $600 (I dont remember the exact amount) make
sure it has signature required

But if my fear comes true, what should I do to defend myself or who should I

But if my fear comes true, what should I do to defend myself or who should I

if something came up then you would have to be in contact with Paypal. but if
a case is opened then depending on what they claim they can be difficult to do
anything against as if for example the buyer paid via a credit card on Paypal
and they file a claim with their bank such as an unauthorized purchase or
such its practically 100% impossible to win but if they claim for example that
it never arrived then tracking will cover you so long as you shipped to the Paypal
address (and sign for if expensive). Tho the thing to keep in mind is even tho
things like this are horror stories that you always see in videos and such they
are exceedingly rare. across different platforms I've had approximately 10-15
thousand orders many of which are high $ to low feedback users and I've only
ever had 1 chargeback against me which was for something like a $10 book on ebay
but I won that chargeback so in general as long as it has full tracking then
you should be all good in 999/1000 cases (and remember that tracking/insurance
is for the seller so even if it has tracking but gets lost or damaged you will
still be fully responsible for refunding it as that is PayPal/country rules in
almost every place)

I just looked and Paypal seems to take care of payment in case of a problem like
the one I'm worried about. But if it's ever happened to anyone, how did
it end?

I dont think Paypal absorbs payments from chargebacks so could you perhaps post
a link to what you read as they might be referring to something else

yes but the things they "cover" are only the same as what tracking protects
you from for the most part. see the list on that page

"Exemptions from the program
Our Seller Protection program does not cover:

Claims or Chargebacks for Significantly Not as Described.
Items that you deliver in person, including at a point of sale.
Digital goods and licences for digital content.
Items equivalent to cash (including, without limitation, gift cards or vouchers).
Gold Bullion.
PayPal Direct Payments (including Virtual Terminal Payments and Website Payments
Pro/Plus payments).
Mass Payment / Payouts.
Counterfeit goods.
Items that are not shipped to the recipient address. If you originally ship the
item to the recipient address but the item is later redirected to a different
address, you will not be eligible for PayPal Seller Protection. We therefore
recommend not using a shipping service that is arranged by the buyer, so that
you will be able to provide valid proof of shipping and delivery.
Donations.
Financial products and investments."

with the main one being "Claims or Chargebacks for Significantly Not as Described."
which is probably the most common claim done fraudulently where people order
something (for example a new lego set) and the claim it arrived damage or such
and then try to get a claim done that way. but either way claims are exceedingly
rare so in general you shouldn't worry about it

Send photos of the exact condition of the set, before he pays. Pack well and
send with tracking (and signature if the total payment is above $850).
He can only file a PayPal claim, in which case, you can accept return. If he
does return a package to you that does not include the product you sold, you
should follow that with the police.

Every single buyer on this website had zero feedback at some point. This does
not make a buyer more concerning. If the value of the product is truly too high,
you can refuse to sell to him. But my question would be this: would you have
felt more comfortable if the buyer had 5 positive feedbacks?

Bon courage et ne t'inquiete pas trop!

I was reading your splash page and I am not sure if this is allowed
- if several buyers are interested in the same item, priority will be given
to the person who buys it first or who pays a reservation deposit

Also if you want the PayPal seller protection you must send to the address listed
on the PayPal account NOT the address listed on the Bricklink account

  Hello everyone,
An order was placed to me for the purchase of a new set from my store. But the
buyer has no reviews, he's account was created less than a week ago and he
didn't contact me before placing the order.
I am worried that the buyer will try to scam me, for example by saying that the
item is not good or something.

Do you think if I take a video of the packaging that will be enough to cover
me? How can I defend myself if this happens to me? and what are your recommendations?

Thanks in advance, Adrien.

I was reading your splash page and I am not sure if this is allowed
- if several buyers are interested in the same item, priority will be given
to the person who buys it first or who pays a reservation deposit

Yeah, and not sure how multiple buyers can order the same item.

Also if you want the PayPal seller protection you must send to the address listed
on the PayPal account NOT the address listed on the Bricklink account

If the buyer pays via PayPal onsite, this would be entirely irrelevent because
PayPal copies and uses the address of buyer on Bricklink because buyer pays via
the link coming from Bricklink. This means the address of buyer that appears
on the PayPal transaction details would be exactly the one the buyer uses on
Bricklink, no matter what the primary address of buyer on PayPal is.

address compared to their bricklink address.

It is 100% true and part of how PayPal (and Ebay) works.
As a buyer, I have ordered 100s of times with different address than the one
I have on BL or Ebay and PayPal always copied the address I had on BL/Ebay. To
make it more dramatic, I live in Canada and PayPal only allows me to have an
address in Canada but each time I used an address outside Canada, PayPal copies
that address in that different country.

For you, those addresses that were different came from PayPal offsite payments.
This is about onsite payment.

why are you arguing with me?? I'm sure other sellers can also attest to
this. I ONLY accept paypal ONSITE and yet have had over a dozen orders in past
year where the paypal address DID NOT match the bricklink address.

I am not what you consider “arguing” but what yoh claimed you have seen is against
how paypal and ebay claim to work.
Would you pleae share a screen shot of an order and its paypal transaction where
the two addresses don’t match. (You would need to hide most of the address but
to only show a few letters,.. that do not reveal the addresss but helps us to
see these two are different. If you don’t share a acreen shot, i can knnly assume
I am right. But if you are right, this would be something interesting and important
to know.

If anybody else has received orders where the two addresses are different, please
let us know.

Maybe it's the same case where you're refunded PayPal fees and maybe
99% of the others aren't?

Something specific in your (and a few others) PayPal account contract?

Just thoughts though.

Hey Sylvain,

I think the public forum is where correct information should be given because
many people read it and want to educate from it. I have seen many people states
things that are not correct. If I write something that turns out to be wrong,
I would simply appreciate to be corrected and don't get offended or consider
it "arguing". If not, I would provide some evidence but for sure, my
reaction won't be "stoplisting". That would be quite stranqe!

Do you think likewise or do you honestly think I was arguing?
