The parts on the left are from

Set No: 8092 Name: Luke's Landspeeder
*
8092-1 (Inv) Luke's Landspeeder
129 Parts, 6 Minifigures, 2010
Sets: Star Wars: Star Wars Episode 4/5/6

The parts on the right are from

Set No: 8894 Name: Piraka Stronghold
*
8894-1 (Inv) Piraka Stronghold
547 Parts, 12 Minifigures, 2006
Sets: BIONICLE: Playsets

The ones on the left are subdued, they have a feel of darkness. The ones on the
right have more bounce, with a hint of being translucent. The light seems to
be reflected back from the inside.

The smartphone image does not really grab the difference in tone and color. When
I first saw the ones on the left, I could not believe this was the same dark
red.

Parts on the right are 4 years older than the ones on the left. Still not sure
if they should be listed in the same lot, or two lots with some kind of description.

I can see the color difference easily enough. Are any of the dark red parts at
all brittle?

Cheers ...

Not that I can tell. They just have a distinctly different brightness/darkness
of Dark Red.

They are both Dark Red, but the ones on the left are more likely to shatter under
minimal pressure. Old Dark Red from 2001-2007 has a more translucent
look to it, and as far as I know, doesn't suffer from the same kind of fragility
issues
as Dark Red from 2008-2018.

Both Dark Red and Reddish Brown underwent a reformulation process in 2008, which
I believe is to blame for the decade of brittle parts.

I'd definitely separate these when listing them. A note should be enough.

Some of the brittle issues are rumored to be a result storage of K8s of
finished parts in a warehouse, where the upper areas were too warm (possibly
Monterrey MX). There may have been formulation issues on top of that. I know
that the torsos for loc046 ( Furty ) had a failure rate exceeding 90%, and they
were dark brown.

Left one from 2010 set and right ones from 2006 set.
Looks like a color mix issue? I don't have when they switched to precoloured
in my permanent memory.

I believe it’s 2006-2008. Someone might know more than me, but I’ve seen a few
rough estimates mention those years.

Rylie says “Reformulated around 2010 to be more consistent.”

It's definitely around 2008. The switch in EIDs can be seen in parts contextual
to 2008 sets.

or well, rather, late 2008 probably. I haven't seen any switch in EIDs 2007
or 2009 parts, and there was buzz about the change on forums back in 2009.
