I have about 5 of these lego sets that all of a sudden became very popular. A
few folks were asking about it at the same time and I let them all know i'm
getting messages about it.

This one person bought 4 of my 5 sets right away. I packaged/taped everything
up, got the shipping forms done, and customs forms all setup and ready to go.
Once weighed, I sent him the invoice and he responds and says it's beyond
his budget and he's asking for discounts (albeit I'm not sure how much
he's asking as he's using his local currency).

I told him discounts, etc. are supposed to be negotiated prior to buying. If
he's not buying because of folks in line for this, I'd have to issue
a Non Paying Buyer. He's claiming he's being blackmailed and is refusing
to pay and now trying to cancel the request. He's also threatening me with
negative feedback on a perfect score at my store. What's weird is this person
has 80+ perfect score as well. He also threatened to block my store which I'll
be happy for as I don't want buyers like this. These types of actions ruins
the BL community due to his sense of entitlement.

Not sure why he has no understanding how BrickLink works after 80+ purchases.
I can easily cancel the order, but worried someone like this will affect other
BL sellers in the future as he is showing little remorse for the trouble he caused
as well as wasting my time & money on tape, printing, etc.

I'm deciding to pursue a Non Paying Buyer to hopefully make him see he's
100% in the wrong even if it holds up my inventory from the other buyers so other
store owners won't have to deal with this type of mentality.

Interested to hear what would other store owners do?

File NPB, and stoplist.

And don't package orders until paid.

Problem is I found Canada Post very finicky and expensive. If you don't pack
it with exact measurement and weight, the shipping price can vary from the invoiced
price. I have to custom cut the box size to make it fit to the smallest box
size possible to lower the shipping price to help buyers. It can make the shipping
price vary from 10-20$ depending on the order size.

I ship with CanadaPost (over 200 packages sent in Canada?!) and I never needed
to pack to send an invoice. I just do it based on estimation of size. Weight
is easier to be estimated.

File NPB and complete it. It takes certain number of days but it is ok. Meanwhile,
I would list those sets again so that others can buy it if you really don't
want to wait the NPB to be completed. This buyer will most likely not pay anyway
but well, if someone pay for it first, you ship to him.

Every set I have listed for sale is boxed, measured and weighed beforehand.

File the NPB on the buyer.
Complete the NPB. Once the NPB is completed, the buyer will not be able to post
any feedback about the transaction.
When that is done, leave appropriate (negative) feedback to warn others.

Also, don't pack the order before it has been paid. I have never done that.
You can learn to estimate the weight and size of packages. A small postal scale
was one of the best purchases I ever made and they are not too expensive.

Be careful not to cut a box down too small. Too tight a fit isn't that good
either.

Apologies for the word block, I'm on my phone typing. Assuming international
shipment to another country, who's laws may say that a buyer has the right
of refusal right up to the very end. Even so, BrickLink marketplace is a place
where supposedly binding contracts are made between of age adults. For me, if
there was an issue on shipping price, or anything else, I would cancel with no
issue. If this was a new buyer, I'd make sure to inform them that their cancellation
after firming that contract is heavily frowned upon, but also cancel. What you
have here is possibly either a case if buyer's remorse, or someone trying
to blackmail you for a discount. Me, in this case, I'd invoice, and let it
sit for seven days. Remind the I'm still awaiting payment. They may request
to cancel, I'd refuse. File the NPB. They have the choice to accept the strike
on their account, or do nothing and get it anyway. Tough calls on every sale
that goes sideways, but 98.72% of the time, things go well. It's finding
the right balance of ban hammer and understanding.

Just to update everyone.. on the last 2 days of the Non Paying buyer, the buyer
decided to pay. Now he's claiming I shipped him damaged goods and he sent
pics of a pretty scratched up lego box. I had insurance and opening a claim
with Canada Post. I sent him the email which shows a response is 5 days.

I asked him for pictures of the shipping box in case Canada post requires it
and he said the outside is fine and I bait and switched him. He said if i don't
pay in 2 days he'll open a claim with Paypal. From all your experience,
will I be screwed on this?

Kinda crazy people like this are out there.
