| I was wondering if anyone could help me with what is probably a pretty simple
question
when someone has a cart in your store does it show up as a pending order or can
you not see the cart until they've gone to check out?
Any help would be great thanks

You don’t see it at all.
And the items are not reserved until checkout.

Sometimes you can, if you look at your orders at the top of the screen, if some
is actively checking out you can see what's in the cart. You kinda have to
catch it at the right time but we see it several times a week if we are looking
at our orders. But again you have to catch it just right, it typically is processing
through instant checkout and maybe it's only available if you use the instant
checkout feature.

But as it’s during checkout, is it still a cart or is it already an order? Or
is it something else, a “carder”?

It's not yet an order, because the checkout process hasn't been finalized.
It's still effectively a cart - if the buyer backs out before confirming
payment, the items are still in his or her cart.

I believe that this is the time between pressing the final button in checkout
and paying via paypal. The parts are removed from the store but returned if the
buyer doesn't complete the payment. Obviously they don't want want someone
else buying the parts in that gap.

Ha-ah! Good point.
So the question is: is the cart deleted… to be recreated if the payment fails,
or is the cart still there? But also, if it’s still there, it should not be
visible in the store (we wouldn’t want te buyer to restart the checkout in another
window/tab). So it’s really a cart anymore.
Also, I wonder how many of those non-cart-not-yet-orders can fit on a needle….

I think they are best described as "reversible orders" at this stage. I'm
fairly sure you get an order placed email. Normally people go on to pay via PayPal
on the next page so it is not long until payment confirmation comes through.
