Hello

I recently bought set

Set No: 7665 Name: Republic Cruiser (Limited Edition - with R2-R7)
*
7665-1 (Inv) Republic Cruiser (Limited Edition - with R2-R7)
897 Parts, 5 Minifigures, 2007
Sets: Star Wars: Star Wars Episode 1
in used condition. The bricks look like new,
and except for a few missing pieces, the set seems to contain what it should.
Well except maybe the two capes.

The BL inventory says that the capes should be reddish brown but they look more
like (old) brown to me, they lack a "reddish" tint. I that how they should look?
I don't have any any other brown or reddish brown capes or other cloth that
I can compare against. I'm asking because I don't believe this set was
ever mixed with other bricks, and it was delivered mostly assembled to me, so
I suspect that this set was only ever built once and never disassembled before
I did it today.

I don't know if my camera is able to capture the color tones exactly, but
I've tried.

/Jan

Maybe my monitor, but your cape looks reddish brown to me. I have two pictures
of mine, the first with a Brown cape (set 7163), and the second with a Reddish
Brown cape (7255)

Woops my pictures were in the wrong order somehow. But the guy with the flesh
head has a reddish brown cape from set 7255. The guy with the yellow head has
a brown cape from set 7163. Sorry for the confusion.

In my experience a true old brown cape does not have the "lined" sort of texture/color.

That's reddish brown. Cloth colors often differ from the plastic colors.

Looks like Reddish Brown to me.

As previously written, my camera is not able to capture the nuance of the color
in the way I see it.

Anyway, I just realized that I have set

Set No: 7965 Name: Millennium Falcon
*
7965-1 (Inv) Millennium Falcon
1229 Parts, 6 Minifigures, 2011
Sets: Star Wars: Star Wars Episode 4/5/6
which contains a reddish brown
cape. I just compared. There's a definite difference in color. The one from
7965 definitely has a reddish tint, which I still think the other one is missing.
I took a new picture, but the difference is still not as clear as I see it with
my eyes.

So what do you say? Are they still considered to be the same color although they
seem not to be?

/Jan

Er, now they look aubergine (egg plant / dark purple), not (reddish) brown.

Yeah, that picture wasn't any good. I think my camera get confused by the
wood color of my table.

Here's another pic of the two capes from the 7665 set (left, middle) set
and one from 7965 (right, guaranteed reddish brown). Well, the capes are actually
three shades of brown, the rightmost is the darkest. Now I'm totally confused.

The capes are most likely made from many different reams of material that would
most likely have color variation within them. Also, all of these capes come from
sets that were far after the famous color change of 2004, so I don't see
any of them being old brown capes. I think it is merely another example of poor
color quality control. Even black capes vary in color density.

Cheers,
Randy

Ok, I'll take your word for it and consider them all RB to sell in the 7665
set.

BTW - I meant to write "the leftmost is the darkest" in my previous message.
