Why is this part listed as "42042"? The ID of 42042 (and all the Element
IDs listed on this part) belong the Krana*. Shouldn't the scoop be listed
as "x[number]" since its ID is unknown?
*All 8 shapes of Krana share the same ID, as they were produced in the same mold,
which is how they were randomized.

If a mold number is found molded onto a part, then that mold number is included,
since it's a discovered variant. In recent years The LEGO Group has been
adding mold numbers to parts which never had mold numbers.
From what I can see, BrickLink tries to keep up with mold variants, including
when a variant is given a number, which ties that production run to a particular
manufacturing window.
It could also be the case that The LEGO Group lets people know which mold number
a part belongs to. For instance when they need to locate it for purchase of spares
but they don't have it at the factory itself.
There are some ways in which mold numbers become known or discovered, I've
just listed a few off the top of my head. There may be more ways as yet undiscovered.
Just my opinions.
Cheers ...

Part 41673 is called "BION. HEAD, INTERM. PLATE" and is contextual to
2002.
I don't know whether this krana holder is an assembly, but I have the following
IDs:
4163137 - 2 Grey
4164414 - 1 White
4164415 - 23 Bright Blue
4164416 - 25 Earth Orange
4164417 - 28 Dark Green
4164418 - 21 Bright Red

Good find!
I don't see any evidence that they're an assembly.
